I have done a lot of reading regarding what type of oil to use in an old outboard motor and the
consensis is to use any of the outboard-specific 2-cycle blends (either petroleum or synthetic based)
currently on the market. The use of automotive (10W-30,etc.) or straight weight non-detergent
oils is NOT recommended. These non-outboard oils simply do not offer the protective
additives that are contained in the newer 2-cycle oils.
I know,we used Pennzoil #30 for years in our outboard motors when I was a kid, but oil technology has made huge leaps forward compared to what it used to be. Why sacrifice your motor on old technology?
